剧情梗概：
奥尔良监狱里新来了两个无辜的罪犯：Zack（汤姆威兹TomWaits饰）和Jack（约翰劳瑞JohnLurie饰）。Zack是一个DJ，被女友抛弃后在街上浪荡的他接受了一个朋友的工作：把一辆车开到一个地方，路上他却被警察拦了下来随后在车后座发现了一具尸体；而Jack则被一个老朋友所说服，去见一个年轻貌美的妓女，就在他准备享受一番之时，警察破门而入将他带走。不久，监狱里又来了一个意大利杀人犯Bob（罗伯托贝尼尼RobertoBenigni饰）。三人在一间牢房里闹了不少笑话。百无聊赖的他们计划逃狱，竟然成功了。三人艰辛走过沼泽地，穿过树林，来到了一个意大利女人Nicoletta（尼可莱塔布拉斯基NicolettaBraschi饰演）住的小屋。Bob和Nicoletta两个意大利人沉浸在爱河中，最后只剩下Jack和Zack继续上路，而他们两人又将在面对岔路口时走向何方......本片由美国独立电影导演吉姆贾木许JimJarmusch执导，为一部黑白电影，参加了1986年的戛纳电影节。影片评价：逃狱的路程中，船行沼泽、无人公路、狰狞的树，贾木许电影里的三大元素一一呈现。鲍伯不会游泳，杰克和扎克在扔下他后又救回了他，艰辛万苦好不容易逃到了一座破废的小木屋里，里面的摆设居然和监狱里的如出一辙。扎克看了一眼，淡淡的说：还不如在监狱里打牌打架呢。真正的流离道路，饿莩相望，他们神形俱饿。之后鲍伯在田野追逐一只野兔给大家做晚餐，整整半个小时。他一边烤着兔子一边自言自语讨论起自己的家人，他的母亲是怎样去扭断兔子的脖子。沉默半响，呆坐地上，说：可是我有梦想啊。三主角越狱后，找到一间和监狱很像的木屋，约翰劳瑞说：我们去密西西比，如果被抓了，我们可以得到一次重新上审理的机会。如果我们去德克萨斯又被抓了，那我们就完蛋了。然后，1997年约翰劳瑞出演了美剧《监狱风云》。
