剧情梗概：
阿细（张家辉饰）是一位名不见经传的泊车小弟，一次偶然中，他同旧日好友扒房（李灿森饰）重逢，欣喜之下，阿细亦找到了自己未来的道路。就这样，阿细经扒房介绍，来到了阿查（吴镇宇饰）所经营的讨债公司工作，然而，对于阿查的为人，阿细不敢恭维。一次行动中，阿细的聪明机灵得到了某黑道大哥的赏识，联系了两位好友，阿细决定跳槽。在黑道大哥的帮助之下，阿细成立了自己的讨债公司，并将公司经营得风生水起，自己也因此而遇见了命中注定的情人。不幸的是，阿查并不愿意放过背叛自己的阿细，他设计陷害阿细，让他陷入了人生的低谷。剧情版本二：有头脑有胆色的阿细，因出身低微，只能当一名泊车仔，因店里欠下债务，被收数公司上门收数，在收数过程中，细重遇好友阿头及扒房，被他们介绍到阿查开设的收数公司中工作。但查为人手段下流，细大为不屑。一次收数过程中，阿细靠自己的胆略调和了黑道大哥之间的矛盾，深得大哥的赏识，细不愿再寄人篱下，遂与阿头及扒房巧妙摆脱阿查的控制，在大哥的支持下开设自己的收数公司，用自己的一套办法收数，生意一日千里，更结识了夜总会女公关Fion，事业、爱情双双丰收，细春风得意，成为新一代收数王。不料风云突变，细被人设局陷害，反被人收数，又被阿头出卖，得力助手死于非命，更发现Fion是警方卧底女警，细在瞬间失去了一切，还要面临阿查的挑战，阿细能否度过难关，一代收数王的命运到底怎样......
