The ANZACs' Western Front campaign had a greater impact than Gallipoli in almost every aspect: five times more soldiers served and were killed there, more than five times as many battles took place and it was there that an astounding fifty-two Victoria Crosses were awarded to Australians.
The diggers serving on the Western Front also helped win the war, but it was at an almost unfathomable cost.
Using brutally honest and extraordinary eyewitness accounts, this dramatic story of Winning World War I comes straight from soldiers who actually fought in those bloody trenches on the notorious Western Front.
Their private letters and personal diaries report the action, battle after battle, as the 'never say die' Australians fight their way to victory against impossible odds. Their reports are illustrated with breathtaking black and white archival footage, priceless old photographs and heart-wrenching tales from descendants on the actual battlefields of the Somme in France, who are telling these long-awaited truths for the first time.
