剧情梗概：
22世纪末，被人类称作加米拉斯的不明外星生物盘踞火星，并持续向地球发射带有强烈放射性物质的游星炸弹，致使地球人死伤无数，濒临灭绝，被迫转到地下求生。在这紧要关头，人类组成宇宙舰队远征火星，结果几乎全军覆没，侥幸逃回的大和号成为人类最后的希望。与此同时，一个神秘装置穿越万里银河坠落地球，经检测发现该装置竟然能消除放射性物质。为了从装置的主人麦哲伦星云伊斯坎达尔星的高智慧生物那里寻求帮助，人类决定孤注一掷，派遣大和号进行这次远征。火星之战中失去哥哥的原宇宙舰队成员古代进（木村拓哉饰）应召归队，和一众好友成为了见证伟大历史时刻的一员。而得知人类动向的加米拉斯也发起了一波波的致命攻击本片根据松本零士的同名原著改编。剧情版本二：突如其来的外星神秘敌人格米拉斯向地球发起了进攻。世界各国集结全部战力进行防卫，却惨遭覆没。格米拉斯投下了无数的游星炸弹，人类大部分被炸死。2199年，距离宇宙大战过去了五年，被炸弹放射能污染的地球即将消亡。为数不多的幸存者们在地下绝望地生活着，当年地球军王牌飞行员古代进也在其中。由于家人格米拉斯的攻击中死去，悲伤过度的古代消沉不振，离开了军队。幕后花絮原作中大和号团队只有森雪一位女性，真人版电影做了调整，将佐渡医生和航行班的相原改为了女性。原女主角森雪由（泽尻英龙华）出任，由于2009年她被事务所解雇，后来黑木明纱饰演。演员阵中最熟悉宇宙战舰大和号动画的是柳叶敏郎。黑木明纱进入剧组比其他演员都晚，进剧组第一场戏就是大决战的高潮场面，当时演得十分辛苦。该片主题歌《LOVELIVES》由美国著名摇滚乐队史密斯飞船的主音歌手（斯蒂文泰勒）谱写并演唱。动画《宇宙战舰大和号》的策划制作人（西崎义展）于2010年11月7日在海上发生事故，当时他乘的那艘船就叫大和号影片评价《宇宙战舰大和号》没有太多惊喜，剧情节奏不错，音效和爆炸场面也很震撼，但缺乏惊喜，编导们基本还是严格遵循动漫原著的脚步，尽量还原动漫的精彩神韵、这种做法当然没错，但是对于漫迷和新的影迷来说，缺乏惊喜的电影，而且故事脉络都已经很熟悉的情况下，是很难让人有购票的冲动，整体效果就是一部在人预料之中的作品，除了特效场面，极少有让人眼前一亮的情节，而且对于人物的塑造也过于模式化，这些都是日本动漫改编电影的一贯问题，如果能有突破和改变，故事情节每发展一步都是观众预料得到的，这样的电影作品号召力当然有限。（新浪娱乐评）
