Sculptor Bourgeois lifts the veil on her life and work in this revealing portrait of a modern artist. Focusing on themes of sexuality, femininity, and isolation, her work has been associated with all the major artistic movements of the 20th century, but Bourgeois never let her work get stalled by the tenets and dogma of any one movement. In a career that spanned 50 years, she was always at the vanguard, moving from painting to sculpture and finally to performance art. In her work, Bourgeois is known for working in a large scale, as with her spider-like sculptures, and for experimenting with unusual materials such as latex and silicone. In her life, she remains outspoken and provocative.
Best known for her mammoth sculptures that radiate sexuality and menace, Louise Bourgeois is one of the 20th century's most singular artists. Her work is as varied and imaginative as the women herself, as this intimate documentary demonstrates, capturing Bourgeois as she shares her thoughts on her long art career and often troubled life.
