-- Original title: "Control de Fronteras: Espana" --
"Border Control: Spain" is a series that shows the interventions of the Security and Customs Services at the borders of Spain who are under the constant threat from drugs, weapons and suspected terrorists, depicting the situations happening between the border control services and the people affected.
The documentary series accompanies the border guards of Spain in their daily fight against crime - on land, at sea and in the air. Around the clock, the men and women are on duty to prevent criminal gangs, drug traffickers and smugglers. The role of the security forces is manifold: from the fight against hashish transport in the strait of Gibraltar to the smashing of organized human trafficking at the airport in Madrid to the search for counterfeit branded goods in the port of Barcelona. The daily life of the Security Forces never leaves time for boredom ...
This docureality of 14 half-hour episodes shows for the first time the work of the National Police, the Civil Guard and the Tax Agency in the hot spots of transit of people and goods. DMAX has previously shown the border control series covering the customs of countries such as the USA, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom since it is an internationally successful format that has been issued in many countries.
It should be keep in mind that Spain is a strategic transit point for goods and travelers due to a key geographical location that separates the southern point of Europe and North Africa. The DMAX cameras were, during the first season, at the Madrid airport and the port and airport of Barcelona and the Algeciras border, among other key strategic points. In addition, in later installments, they extended the filming to the ports of Valencia and Melilla.
The main objective of the series is to show viewers the challenges that authorities who work to detect suspicious travelers and luggage with illegal content face every day. The film crew had access to a world until now reserved for a few. Their cameras became inseparable companions of officers as they search, pursue, identify or try to arrest suspects. All before the eyes of the spectators in a journey full of suspense, drama, emotional and also comical moments.
In its effort to show the reality of the security forces of our country, DMAX offers a unique access to the daily life of the agents of the different groups of the Police and the Civil Guard to know in depth how they work. A successful bet that has achieved the support of the audience thanks to series produced in our country such as 'Road Control', '091: Police Alert', 'Seprona in Action', 'Border Control: Europe'and 'Border Control: Spain'.

Part 1
In the Strait of Gibraltar, Spanish border guards are preparing for a risky sea maneuver. Pablo Pineiro and his colleagues from the Coast Guard have been targeting a suspicious fishing boat there for hours. Aerial photos show that the crew of the "Valiente" received around 80 parcels on the sea. According to the Civil Guard, these are drugs. There is talk of two and a half tons of hashish, which is why the armed special forces with dinghy boats are in pursuit.
Part 2
In Algeciras, a suspicious food container attracts the attention of the Spanish border guards. The pineapple boxes inside have come a long way - they come from Panama. But when scanning the goods, the customs officers made an interesting discovery: Apparently some fruits were prepared by drug smugglers before they were transported, because there are plastic bags with cocaine in them. Meanwhile, at Barcelona airport, Javier Leal and his colleagues are pulling a suitcase with a hidden compartment out of circulation.
Part 3
The import and export of cash in the amount of 10,000 euros and more is subject to registration in Spain. But when the customs staff at the airport in Barcelona checked the luggage of an Algerian merchant, suddenly 42 five hundred bills came to light. Previously, the passenger from Jordan had passed the exit "Nothing to declare" and gave false information in a routine questioning - apparently to deliberately deceive the border guards. And when the matter is discovered, he tries to buy himself out of trouble by making the officers an offer on top of that.
Part 4
Anyone traveling to the EU and not subject to tax here can request a VAT refund for the goods they buy here. It will then be paid to them. "Tax Free Shopping" is very popular with tourists and students from non-EU countries. But when a passenger from Asia obtained receipts for almost 8,000 euros at the airport in Madrid, the Spanish customs officers became suspicious. The border guards then deal with a passenger who smuggles parrots in his hand luggage.
Part 5
The entire Spanish coast is monitored in the fight against illegal immigration, drug and human trafficking. And one of the more than seventy strategically distributed control stations sends information of a suspicious vessel to the coordination center in Madrid in this episode. The trace of it's wake shows strange maneuvers at sea. Therefore, the alerted border guards in Algeciras try to stop the boat with a patrol ship. Meanwhile, in the port, a container with weapons arouses the interest of the Guardia Civil.
Part 6
45 million tons of goods per year: Cristina Molano and her colleagues from customs have their hands full in the port of Barcelona. And in this episode, a container from Sierra Leone calls the border guards on the scene, because there are two expensive SUVs in it. However, the owner has set the value of the SUVs extremely low in order to save on fees. In the meantime, the coast guard is on the trail of a gang of smugglers near Tarifa. There a jet boat with illegal immigrants is heading for the mainland.
Part 7
More than 12,000 pieces of luggage per hour whizz around in baskets on the conveyor belts at Madrid-Barajas Airport. The suitcases and bags are searched for explosives and narcotics, among other things. And in this episode, Eduardo Ojeda and his colleagues from Customs discover suspicious metal objects on the computer screen that could pose a major security risk in the air. Meanwhile, a passenger from Asia tries to smuggle 40 cell phones past the experienced border guards.
Part 8
Three days vacation in Madrid? A young woman from Ecuador gives contradicting information at the airport in the Spanish capital. Since the passenger also appears extremely nervous and comes from a country through which drug cartels often smuggle drugs into the European Union, the officers of the Guardia Civil are suspicious. An X-ray examination will show whether Emilio Sacristan and his colleagues are correct in their suspicions. During a foreign exchange control on the border with Andorra, the police have already struck gold.
Part 9
An average of four million passengers pass through Madrid-Barajas Airport each month. That means a lot of work for the security officers who ensure law and order there, as parcel traffic must also be carefully controlled. A unit of the Guardia Civil, which is exclusively responsible for the cargo area, takes care of this task. And the border guards know every trick in the trade. In this episode, Rafael Jimenez and his colleagues discover cocaine worth 120,000 euros in the lining of a biker jacket.
Part 10
Flights within the Schengen countries are less controlled. That is why smugglers often make a stopover on the way before entering Spain. But with this simple trick Daniel Zamarreno and his colleagues from the Guardia Civil can not be fooled in this episode. The experienced border guards have suspicious passengers in their sights at Madrid airport who do not want to pick up their suitcases. The people in question apparently know exactly what is in store for them when it comes to baggage control.
Part 11
At the border with Gibraltar, customs agents rip apart a car to remove smugglers smokescreen. At Madrid-Barajas Airport, the Civil Guard embark on a plane that has just arrived from the Dominican Republic. A suitcase contains souvenirs from Mexico that could bring the owners a lot of problems. And at Madrid airport, a briefcase appears to be hiding more than a dodgy dossier. Drug traffickers and smugglers are constantly coming up with new ploys and tricks to dupe customs and police, which is why the Guardia Civil do not only rely on their instinct and experience when fighting crime.
Part 12
Two passengers from Santiago de Chile are questioned separately by the customs officers of the Guardia Civil at Barcelona Airport. Because the suspicious passengers from South America carry a large sum of money with them and the many entry stamps in the passports could indicate that they are drug couriers. As it turns out when the personal details are checked, one of the men is also wanted by the Catalan police on an arrest warrant. With that, his trip to Spain definitely ends in the holding cell.
Part 13
A watercraft is in dire straits, and Coast Guard is running out of time to help it's passengers. The Guardia Civil smokes out a smuggler at Barcelona airport. Customs agents are having a dilemma when a scanner warns of what lies inside of a shipping container, and a widow arrives at Madrid airport penniless, distressed and at wit's end. For the agents who monitor the main Spanish border points these are some of the most unlikely and emotional situations that occur every day.
Part 14
From Armenia via Moscow to Barcelona: A passenger from Yerevan wanted to bypass customs control at the airport, but attentive border guards discovered her. Therefore, the lady's luggage is now being carefully examined. Esteban Gil and his colleagues discovered 45 cartons of cigarettes worth around 3500 euros in the suitcases. In addition, the tobacco smuggler does not appear to be working alone. Meanwhile, on the ferry to Tangier, a foreign passenger is violating the Spanish gun law.
