I Want to Meet the Manager is a documentary film that would make any visitor from outer space want to complain to the manager with just one look at the Earth. The film opens with a quote from Beat Generation writer William S. Burroughs. With this in mind, the film went to seven cities and recorded seven seemingly unrelated stories, from the lithium miners in Bolivia's Sky Mirror to the luxury car salesmen in Beijing, from the cryogenic bank in Detroit to Pompeii. Roman warriors posing with tourists in the ancient city, from an international nursing home in Chiang Mai to an abandoned building transformed into a poor community in Venezuela. Hans Lang examines the face of the global village under globalization with a calm anthropological attitude, and at the same time presents the humble dreams, hopes and fears of the lower classes of society.
