The Romanians Are Coming
With numbers of immigrants rising and laws changing regarding the possibility of work, this three-part documentary follows the lives of a group of Romanians trying to make a fresh start in the UK.

Part 1
  
The first programme meets Sandu, a Roma gypsy who has come overseas to feed his family - but with little grasp of the English language he struggles to get by in Liverpool. Stefan speaks limited English and works as a living statue, but there's competition for the best costumes, and he's got a long way to go to raise the funds needed to bring his daughter to the UK for leg surgery.


Part 2
  
A look at the reality of life in Romania and the motivation behind the influx of immigrants in the UK. Mihalia is a nurse who lives with her husband, daughter and elderly mother. She's hoping that moving overseas will allow her to improve her life and help her family. In London, Alex has his first full-time job working in a warehouse, but his wages aren't enough to cover rent and he's still sleeping on the streets. To make matters worse, his companion Christian has been checked into hospital with TB. Adi makes £30 a day at a car wash, but he sends so much of his money back to his wife and child that he has slept rough under a bridge for six years.


Part 3
  
A look at the mass migration from Romania, where one in 10 people have now left the country. Racism is rife and Roma gypsies have been evicted from their homes, living in rubbish dumps, with little prospect of a job or financial stability. Romanians may now be free to move across Europe to find work, but is it really freedom when they are forced to leave their homes and families behind?
