Tough Boats
Tough Boats is a series that explores some of the most fascinating and hard-core boat journeys on the planet. In this series we undertake epic journeys by boats in some of the toughest environments on earth. During our journeys we look at how the technology of boat travel has been adapted to survive trade with and connect isolated communities.

The Amazon
  
Holly Morris travels by boat down one of the remotest stretches of the Amazon, in Peru. Sleeping in a hammock at night, for three days she shares deck space with over 200 local Peruvians and their cargo on the way to Iquitos.


Tanzania
  
Zay Harding travels on board one of Africa's toughest and most historic boats as he explores the spectacular East African country of Tanzania, starting his journey at the southern end of Lake Tanganyika, the world's largest freshwater lake.


The Arctic
  
Ian Wright travels to the high Arctic starting from Norway on a fishing trawler and then continuing on an especially ice-strengthened vessel around Spitsbergen, the largest island in the Svalbard archipelago, in search of polar bears.


Great Lakes
  
Adventurer Holly Morris explores the waters that shaped America - the Great Lakes. Covering some 244,000 square kilometres, the Great Lakes are the largest reservoir of fresh water on the planet and one of the world's busiest waterways.


Philippines
  
The Philippines is the world's second-largest archipelago, nestled in the Pacific Ocean's Coral Triangle. Boats have always played a fundamental role in shaping this country. Zoe D'Amato explores the islands and their rich culture.


Egypt
  
Holly Morris travels back in time to explore some of the most spectacular ancient Egyptian tombs and temples along the banks of the Nile.
