剧情梗概：
林五哥（邓超）和郭三妹（李小冉）是一对青梅竹马的恋人，三妹积极进步，五哥只想做一名好医生，两人在人生道路的选择上出现了分歧。势利的郭父欲将三妹嫁给大军阀做姨太太，而拒绝了五哥的提亲。三妹雨夜逃婚投身革命，郭父怕家丑外扬，对外佯称三妹已经上吊身亡。军阀得知三妹的死讯，强抢二妹。危急关头五哥挺身而出，称二妹是自己的未婚妻。为使郭家和二妹免遭不测，五哥娶了二妹。婚后两人过着安静的生活，善良的二妹温柔体贴，默默支持照顾着五哥，五哥对家庭也是全心全意地尽责，只是对三妹的思念始终萦绕在五哥的心头。三妹参加新四军后回到家乡筹集药品，知道五哥和姐姐已经结婚生子，只好将感情封存在心里。未死的爱人突然出现，扰乱了五哥平静的生活，五哥尽全力支持三妹的革命工作以此表达对三妹未尽的爱意。剧终，二妹为救五哥而遭日军绑架生死未卜，三妹则倒在了日军的枪口之下，五哥终于拿起武器奔赴抗日战场为家人为民族而战。
