剧情梗概：
1941年，小镇小子傻兮兮地跑来向村民大叫：“纳粹军打到来！”一时人心惶惶，他心生一计，倒不如假扮纳粹军，跳上火车，自称驶向集中营，实则逃亡到别国去。火车一行一惊心，德军两次拦途捡查，幸得一次瞒天过海，一次撞着同道中人，齐齐走佬齐齐上路……。可是火车驶过千里路，到最后还是有人欢喜有人愁。　　在法国南部一个犹太人聚居的小村庄，人们为了逃避德军的屠杀和迫害，决定举村迁徙逃往圣地——耶路撒冷。全村人变卖财产，捐资购买了一列火车，由一些人乔装成德国官兵，以押运犹太人去集中营为名，巧妙地逃过了德军的耳目，经苏联逃往以色列等地。　　故事发生在第二次世界大战期间，当德军占领了法国之后，他们对犹太人进行了骇人听闻的屠杀与迫害，使人们惶恐不安。施劳默在逃出一场劫难后，匆匆跑向施代尔——一个犹太人聚居的小村庄，将德军即将来临的消息告诉了乡亲们。为逃避纳粹的残酷迫害，大家决定举村迁徙，经苏联逃往圣地耶路撒冷所在地——以色列。拉比神父代表村议会指定木材商默多沙伊乔装成德国军官担任列车总指挥，带领一些由青年人乔装成的德国士兵，以押送犹太人去集中营为掩护，向苏联边境逃亡。全村人捐资购买了一列火车，这列所谓的囚车在夜色的掩护下，开始了逃亡之旅……面对路途中的艰难与凶险，胆小懦弱的人变得勇敢坚强了，平时疯疯颠颠的人也变得聪明机智起来，各种人物的内心世界得到了充分的显现。在经历了一番生与死的洗礼，善与恶的较量之后，人们用他们的机智与勇敢，战胜了重重困难，终于到达了光明的彼岸。
