剧情梗概：
和妻子感情破裂后，报社撰稿人菲利克斯（杰克·莱蒙JackLemmon饰）被赶出了家门，无奈之下，他只得暂时搬到朋友奥斯卡（沃尔特·马修WalterMatthau饰）的住处，和这个相识多年的好伙伴成为了室友。奥斯卡和菲利克斯的性格简直是冰火两重天，前者作风古怪个性孤僻常常将家里弄得一团糟，而后者却是个喜欢清洁和烹饪的好好先生。　　虽然“同居”中的两人常常因为一些小事拌嘴，但他们的生活都因为对方的存在而有了一丝的生机，隔壁住的一对来自英国的姐妹花更是给予了他们无尽的幻想。在奥斯卡的极力反对下，菲利克斯还是将两姐妹邀请到家中做客，没想到四人相处的不错，当事态向着理想的方向发展时，奥斯卡却打死也不肯继续了，抓狂的菲利克斯大发雷霆，这对好友之间的友情岌岌可危。
