剧情梗概：
这是一个发生在英国伦敦的故事，在一个我们并不熟悉的世界里……罗迪·圣詹姆斯是鼠类的佼佼者，一只过着奢华过度的生活的宠物鼠。在主人家位于肯辛顿花园的豪宅里，他拥有一个属于自己的小庄园。然而，这种衣食无忧的快乐很快就被一个不速之客搅乱了，西德是一只顺着下水道水管爬进来的褐家鼠，他非常羡慕罗迪这种养尊处优的大少爷生活，决定赖在这里不走了。西德就是罗迪最瞧不起的那种生活在底层社会里的无赖，所以他想尽办法也要将西德重新赶回下水道。然而，从没经历过世间险恶、天真纯洁的罗迪哪是狡猾的老油条西德的对手？罗迪最终掉进了自己为西德设的陷阱里，在厕所里被冲进了弥漫着恶臭的下水道。　　罗迪做梦也没想到，地面之下的世界竟然别有洞天，里面有一个他只在电视上才见过然而，罗迪此刻最想念的仍然是他那美丽的家和舒服的床，这个从没出过门的小伙子，还没开始找回家的路，就在林林总总的街道上迷路了……好在他遇到了瑞塔，一只勇敢强悍的雌鼠，她有一艘船，也许可以帮助罗迪回伦敦。但瑞塔也有她的烦恼：下水道的主人——癞蛤蟆陶德小时候因为别人给了他的主人一只老鼠而失宠，最后被冲到了下水道。他千方百计的想得到瑞塔和她的父亲得来的宝石，因而让斯派克和怀特尼以及其他的其他的老鼠手下一起追捕瑞塔。　　这时，陶德的手下来了，瑞塔驾船躲了起来，但罗迪一不小心吹响了汽笛，致使他们被发现。可陶德的手下始终找不到宝石，最终，宝石被罗迪发现了，他们驾船驶回了下水道的控制口。　　陶德想将瑞塔和罗迪都冻在冰块里，可他们却巧妙得逃脱了，还拿走了属于瑞塔的宝石。事后的船上，罗迪发现这个宝石是假的，瑞塔不相信，罗迪便将它磕成了碎片（真正的宝石不会被磕碎），罗迪见瑞塔十分伤心，便保证在瑞塔送他回伦敦后，送她一块宝石，瑞塔最终同意了。　　由于瑞塔和罗迪在逃走时将供应下水道所有电的电线拔断了，而陶德的手下又十分无能，抢回电线的计划没有成功。于是陶德找来他的表弟——杀手LeFrog来夺回电线。然而，罗迪用他的智慧将LeFrog所有的手下全部消灭，只剩下Lefrog一只青蛙。他们展开了激烈的争斗，最后以牺牲瑞塔的船为代价回到了他的家。　　罗迪将宝石送给瑞塔后，她便离开了罗迪家。他发现西德不但顶替了自己的位置，还活得很滋润，然而，当罗迪通过各种线索知道陶德想将整个老鼠城市冲走的阴谋后，义无返顾的自愿被冲下下水道，最终，罗迪挽救了整个老鼠城市。　　罗迪面临回伦敦过好日子和与他爱的老鼠——瑞塔一起生活这两种选择。罗迪最后选择将房子让给了西德，和瑞塔一起生活。
