剧情梗概：
在新开通的地下铁中，青年陈保罗（张国荣饰）对同车的莫妮卡（张曼玉饰）一见钟情，不幸却被另一名乘客安妮（梅艳芳饰）趁机捉弄。这几位年轻人很快散落在茫茫人海中，职场新丁陈保罗开始为工作奔忙，莫妮卡则为了厘清和上司的一段旧情而心神不宁。某日，保罗与莫妮卡再次相遇，而富家小姐安妮亦再度出现，半捉弄半挑逗地缠上了保罗。莫妮卡找到新工作，遭遇了好色新领导的骚扰，保罗则在安妮的暗中帮衬下正式追求莫妮卡，与后者的好色上司连番交手。莫妮卡考虑接受保罗的爱意但终于退缩，声称将他们的爱情交付给一场地铁中的缘分游戏。在离乱的人流中，保罗和安妮一起，去找寻消失的莫妮卡剧情版本二：刚从大学毕业的保罗（张国荣饰）找到了第一份工作，信心十足的踏上了人生的第一步。一天，他乘地铁上班途中，无意中巧遇青春漂亮的女孩莫妮卡（张曼玉饰），从见到的第一眼起就不由自主的爱上了她。可是，同乘一班地铁的富家千金阿尼塔（梅艳芳饰）也喜欢上了保罗，并决定勇敢地将幸福抓到自己的手中。当保罗与莫妮卡克经历长时间的跋涉之后，正当预备结婚时，莫妮卡的前度男友（陈友饰）忽然出现。原来他是一个有妇之夫，因莫妮卡而和原妻离婚，莫妮卡陷入痛苦、错综复杂的三角矛盾中。最后，莫妮卡和保罗走入地下铁，搭上不同列车，考验双方能否有缘在地铁相遇
