剧情梗概：
张家安，一个与母亲住在天水围的应届会考生，他在一个单亲家庭长大，与母亲一起相依为命，比较服从母亲的话，成绩也不算优秀但为人很普通。而张母虽然是单亲母亲，但从不自怨自艾，而是努力将儿子养大，并积极工作她在一家超级市场的生果档当售货员，敬业乐业。在她年少时她把努力工作赚来的钱供两个弟弟到国外读书，而与弟弟们之间虽然平时很少来往，但感情深厚。梁欢，年轻时曾经在市区里卖生果，后来落叶归根回到天水围社区，与张母住在同一栋大厦，并与张母之间成为了朋友张家安、张母，以及梁欢，就像香港的大部分同一个时代的人一样，过着平凡而似乎刻板的日常生活，也在那平淡的日子里折射出淡淡的人情味，流露出天水围的温情一面幕后制作创作背景2004年，天水围连环发生几宗家庭悲剧，引起全港关注，许鞍华通过新闻报道，了解到天水围地区发生的种种惨剧，就萌发了拍摄一部电影的念头。许鞍华为搜集数据，由资深社工邵家瑧安排跟随一位元朗区社工入区体察。不过，当她接触过该区居民，发觉他们并没报道形容那样悲，所以决定用写实手法去描述这里的人与情，不想再标榜悲情城市（虽然那部影片最终还是拍摄了，就是在2009年香港国际电影节上映的《天水围的夜与雾》）。而在那之前，她的学生吕筱华（新闻系一年级的学生）给了她一个剧本。故事是讲两母子的生活，但是没有什么商业元素，但是她真的很喜欢，于是就放在一边，等有机会再去拍。不过许鞍华也透露，最开始的剧本里，故事并不是发生在天水围，不过一段时间后，许鞍华决定做一个新的尝试。将这个剧本和天水围综合起来。筹资选角剧本有了，但是却没有资金，许鞍华随即拍摄了《姨妈的后现代生活》，不但找来了周润发，还力邀内地女明星斯琴高娃和赵薇助阵，不过最终电影只收获了口碑，但票房平平，许鞍华的两部合拍片都没有吸引到足够的内地观众。后来许鞍华去找了王晶，王晶看完剧本以后很感兴趣，就投资了100万。有了钱，接下来就建剧组，影片被定位为电视电影，片长只有90分钟。要想在预算内完成作品，就不能选择名演员，许鞍华打定主意拒绝明星。一开始剧组在网站、论坛和各大高校都招募了许多演员，最终饰演儿子的梁进龙19岁，中学刚刚毕业，在姨妈的股票行做事，无论是从气质还是外形，许鞍华觉得梁进龙最为合适。而另一主演鲍起静与许鞍华并不陌生，她俩在《千言万语》中就曾有过合作，在那部电影中，鲍起静饰演李康生的妈妈。女配角阿婆的饰演者陈丽云是亚洲电视的一位资深演员，已经演了40多年戏的她其实已经进入了半退休状态。影片评论：也许身为老奶奶的许鞍华，在影片中注入了更多老年人的视角，在洗尽铅华之后，看到的更多的是细腻如常的人情冷暖。不同于《上帝之城》也不同于《贫民富翁》影片里的城市贫民区没有夜店，没有赌场，没有警察，没有马仔，没有鸡鸭，甚至没有乞丐，即使让人有些不安的那几个男同学，也不过是打打麻将、唱唱歌、给老师编个绰号什么的，没有调戏女生，更没有强奸和吸毒。女孩子都是清一色的乖乖女，没有广东开平中学女生暴力lj视频当中的那些泼妇悍妇。跳楼的老人，用的也只是暗线，既不像《楢山节考》那样的悲壮，也没有现实中天水围跳楼及灭门案那样的经济破产之虞，更多的问题，还是来自人的内心，而恢复人心，总是有希望的。的确，这样的天水围让人感觉有些童话色彩，但无可否认的是，这样平凡的故事，的确是社会现实的主体。在这个充斥着戏剧性的电影世界里，我们更需要的是有良心、有勇气说真话的声音，这个声音会坚定而昂扬地告诉我们，这才是我们真正的存在方式。贵姐对生活没有多余的埋怨，却不是三缄其口的忍耐型。她保持着平凡底层对待生活的坦然顺命，再多苦难也真放得下，默默付出亦是值得。对儿子、对亲人、对阿婆，宽容与善心尤其难能可贵。由贵姐自身所触发的过去记忆，更表明许鞍华的目光从天水围放到了整个香港。明月千里寄相思，人生但求皎月般圆满，如有残缺破损，也是常事。自当迎难而上，寻得豁然达观。
