剧情梗概：
乔伊(1911～1977)原籍奥地利，从小喜爱动物。1937年，这位富家少妇去肯尼亚度假，竟迷上了肯尼亚的热带森林和珍禽异兽。从此她就留在肯尼亚，与丈夫离了婚，嫁给了当地的禁猎监督官——一个出生于印度的英国人乔治·埃丹森(1906～1989)。两人志趣相投，把一生献给了森林动物。有一次，乔治遭到一头母狮的袭击，被迫开枪自卫。后来发现，被击毙的母狮遗留下3头刚出生的幼崽。于是他们把其中较强壮的两只送给动物园，最弱小的一只留养在家中，取名“爱尔莎”，和它同吃、同睡、同出游。几年以后，爱尔莎长大了，埃丹森夫妇就把它放归山林。埃丹森夫人1960年写了《狮子和我》一书，出版后引起轰动。1966年哥伦比亚影业公司据此摄制了一部彩色片《BornFree》，由杰姆斯·赫尔导演，弗吉妮亚·麦肯娜饰演埃丹森夫人。狮子爱尔莎离家一年后，竟带了3个儿女回“娘家”。埃丹森夫妇喜出望外，款待了它们。爱尔莎临别时竟有意把3个儿女留在“姥姥”家。于是埃丹森夫人又写了续篇《生活自由》，内容就是这3个“外孙”的成长趣事。又经过2年，埃丹森又把它们放归山林，写了第三本书《永远自由》。这两位提倡保护野生动物的著名实践家，毕生与飞禽走兽为伍，但最终没有葬身于凶猛的狮子之口，却死于万物之灵的人：夫人被3个肯尼亚人杀害，因为她公开揭露和谴责国际走私集团杀害非洲动物牟利的行径；埃丹森本人在83岁高龄时因救援一批遭到土匪拦劫的德国游客被枪杀。JohnBarry以此片获1967年奥斯卡最佳原创电影配乐、最佳原创电影歌曲（获奖歌曲：“BornFree”）两项大奖。

Joey (1911 ~ 1977) was born in Austria and loved animals from an early age. In 1937, the rich young woman went to Kenya for vacation and fascinated the tropical forests and treasures of Kenya.
