剧情梗概：
讲述的是一次著名画家，当他重新找回灵感协助一个梦游的食人族的故事。故事的开始讲述拉瑞斯为了去寻找灵感到某个地方，撞到一只鹿，然后没有怜悯心的杀死了受伤的鹿，警官只是叫他把鹿带走（留下的思考耐人寻味）。拉瑞斯当了教师，一位孤僻少年的姑姑是这座学校的重要投资人。拉瑞斯看到孤僻少年的画后简单的说了不由心的谢谢两字。半夜回到家想画画却没有灵感，而去找邻居，和邻居说了一堆尴尬的话被骂走。噩梦醒来后发现自己在床上，评价孤僻少年（埃迪）的画，然后和艾瑞打闹起来，知道埃迪的父母刚过世，出门后他们讨论和埃迪找个家，希望是拉瑞斯（有一半是为了他姑姑的遗产），半夜醒来发现埃迪不在床上，门口只有他的外套和内衣。埃迪赤裸的的站在外面，嘴巴上都是鲜血，拉瑞斯发现地上有血肉残骸，忽然拉瑞斯的灵感来了，画了一半发现埃迪从洗手间里出来穿戴整齐，把半夜奇怪的事情和老师说，老师说埃迪的爸爸五岁死亡，而埃迪的妈妈被割草机割伤耳朵，埃迪小时候接受不了，半夜就梦游了，老师说这不是小镇最差的情况，埃迪不能被送走，否则学校就会关掉，半夜里拉瑞斯要把窗门封死但因为狗的缘故出门，看到因为他而吵架的两个人，因为这事他不打算关门了，白天醒来发现埃迪又是满嘴鲜血肉块，而这次死的却是一个被大卸八块的人，这是拉瑞斯要报警，可他的灵感又来了，跑去创作，看着他的画满意的笑了，而门口的死人则被拉瑞斯清理掉了，拉瑞斯打电话给朋友说自己又开始作画了，学校里的老师因为他卖出去的画而为他高兴，当他回家时发现家门口开着，埃迪躲在里面，看到他后跑开，拉瑞斯劝解说不是她的错，而是自己当晚很生气，所以那个人死了，劝解说那个人是坏人，自己又可以开始作画了，要和埃迪保存这个秘密，拉瑞斯的经纪人到了，和他说十年前出了次事故，他需要鲜血和内脏刺激作画，讲述了一个雕刻家的血腥故事，要他以这种方式作画，拉瑞斯说这是没有意义的，然后彼此道别。第二天拉瑞斯又说自己没有新画，买东西看到埃迪被黑人刁难，去帮助，回家又看到空白的画发呆，找了诱饵，引诱埃迪追着去黑人那里，艾瑞无意识的睡梦里杀了3个黑人，拉瑞斯又有了灵感创作，全身鲜血的埃迪看了他一下就回卧室了。因此又创作了一次画，艾瑞斯说要在最后画一幅画，一副最好的画，埃迪沉默着去拿了他自己的画，拉瑞斯看着前两幅笑了，看着第三幅沉默了，这时一个警官过来查事情，发现了不对劲来警告，埃迪和拉瑞斯欺骗了警官，女教师和艾瑞斯约会，到艾瑞斯家里和女教师缠绵起来，之后想怂恿睡梦中的埃迪杀死一个完全不相干的人，寻找灵感第二天起来却发现埃迪躺在床上安静的睡着，找到女教师寻找答案，埃迪不受到心理创伤就可以安静的睡着，女教师把自己的作品给拉瑞斯看，拉瑞斯惊奇的看着女教师的画，十分妒忌，却想着自己的画没有灵感。第二天警官在和校长谈话，校长为拉瑞斯辩解，拉瑞斯看着自己的画很没自信，也不去理睬埃迪了，拉瑞斯的经纪人塞尚（第一次有名字），让艾瑞斯去寻找灵感，女教师和拉瑞斯碰面，决定分手，艾瑞斯很气愤、疑惑，艾瑞斯绝对故意冷落埃迪，让埃迪心理受伤，杀人，让自己找灵感。事后觉得自己说的不对，和埃迪讲述自己以前的事情那一次事故，安慰埃迪，艾瑞斯在警察局门口打电话给警官，离开后发现小镇上有一个残肢的人跑过，里面跑出惊慌的人们和满地的残肢，拉瑞斯又一次杀人了，嘴里嚼着肉块，追着除了拉瑞斯以外的人，看着血腥的屋子里面，拉瑞斯笑了，有灵感在家里创作，这时警官过来了，拉瑞斯奇怪的举动引起了警官的怀疑，女教师这时看到了全身鲜血的埃迪，而警官无聊看着埃迪的画觉得不对了，出门口小屋到里面查看女教师则忙着打电话给拉瑞斯，警官看到了小屋里的尸体，拉瑞斯杀死了警官，在跑去创作，却发现创作没了灵感，女教师这时来到了家里，无视拉瑞斯身上的鲜血，看着他的画说不可思议。拉瑞斯解释了所有事情，最后想杀死女教师，这时埃迪扑了进来，杀死了拉瑞斯，女教师要他去医院，拉瑞斯却执意要完成画。拉瑞斯最后道了歉，在女教师的怀抱中死去。最后经纪人在和校长讨论这几幅画的价钱，埃迪却画出了他最后做的事情。（埃迪开始和最后所有的事情都在几幅画之中）
