剧情梗概：
爱女艾丽丝被疯狗咬死，兽医帕特里克戴利（AidanGillen饰）和妻子露易丝（EvaBirthistle饰）和妻子搬到地处偏远的醒木镇居住，渴望找到继续人生之路的勇气。他们的生活看似平淡无奇，但是痛失爱女的悲伤与绝望从未远去，时时搅扰着戴利夫妇的神经。醒目镇平静安详，但在这份表象之下似乎又隐藏着不为人知的秘密。偶然机会，露易丝得知这个秘密，通过神秘的仪式可以让死去未满一年的人短暂复活3天，条件是请求者将永远与醒目镇联系在一起。为了见到朝思暮想的女儿，戴利夫妇答应了这个条件。仪式过后，艾丽丝重返人间，但是意想不到的情况接连发生。斯人已逝，强求不得影片讲述一对夫妇经历女儿被疯狗咬伤的惨剧，之后通过邪教巫师来寻求和死去女儿相聚的三天时光。一个名叫爱丽丝的可爱孩子被一条疯狗咬死了，为了从失去他们唯一的孩子的伤心和绝望中走出来，兽医帕特里克戴利和妻子露易丝从城市搬到遥远的爱尔兰村落醒木。到了这个村落，帕特里克还是做起了他的兽医工作，而露易丝则是在村里的一家药店工作。很快，这对夫妇就和村里的工人、农民等成了好朋友。整个村子的人都把这对夫妻当做是村子里的成员，并且带他们参加村中的一个古老的异教徒仪式。而这个仪式正是帮助人们从突然失去亲人的悲痛中走出来，而且这个传统被偷偷的传承了几个世纪。这个奇特的仪式就是允许一个在一年内失去亲人而且悲痛欲绝的村民带着已故人的尸体在这个仪式上作法，在作法之后，这个尸体将会起死回生，并且生存3天。而在这宝贵的3天里，家属可以说一些在死者死去之前都没有说的话，直到他登上极乐世界。而这对于帕特里克戴利和妻子露易丝来说是一个非常的不可思议的机会，于是这对夫妻要求村民帮助他们实现儿子复活的愿望，而村民理所当然的拒绝了。因为这个仪式有着严格的约束条件，有着严格的规章制度，如果这些规章制度被打破，这对夫妻被允许举行这个仪式的话，他们将支付一笔非常庞大的费用
