剧情梗概：
mohan是在nasa工作的工程师，他主持的项目是“全球雨量测量系统”简称gpm.就在他的工作快要完成的时候，他在父母的忌日那天，想起了自己的乳母kaveri。　　mohan到了美国若干年，与一手将他带大的乳母失去联络。怀着对乳母的思念和歉疚，mohan踏上了回印度的旅程。可是，原本住在养老院的乳母，却被别人接到了一个叫Charanpur（脚印之地）的村庄，mohan又追随着跟去了Charanpur寻找。　　在德里期间，mohan邂逅了美丽的女孩gita，gita给她指了去Charanpur的路。当mohan在Charanpur找到kaveri阿妈时，发现那个接kaveri回家的人，竟然就是在德里书店遇到gita。mohan计划把kaveri接回美国，可是，kaveri却想把gita安排成亲后才决定去不去。于是mohan只得在这个没有国际长途，网络状况很糟糕，没有银行，还老是停电的小村庄住了下来。　　当mohan逐渐进入了村民的生活时，他发现了村子里存在着很多的矛盾，很多的弊端。村民生活困苦，能源匮乏，村中阶级，种姓隔阂重重，草根阶级的人生活悲惨苦难。孩子无法接受教育。因为gita是村中小学的管理人，也是教师，mohan决定从帮助gita开始，他积极鼓动孩子入学，想方设法打破人们心中的樊篱。　　因为mohan的努力，gita得以在村中开办中学。而mohan同时又决定从解决村民的根本问题入手，帮助村民自救。　　mohan的努力，改变了村民的生活，也赢得了gita的芳心。然而，此时，mohan却不得不回到美国，继续主持他的研究项目...
