剧情梗概：
每逢案件搜查都状况百出的警视厅搜查一课刑警-----南波阳人（田中直树）在某一天，被搜查一课长五十岚修（武田铁矢）给叫了过去。原来此前，南波的母校帝都大学法学系教授曾受托负责《犯罪搜查百年史》的编修。然而上头却勒令中止制作，需要南波代为前往道歉。南波边嚷嚷着“我不是为了做这种事才当的刑警”边心不甘情不愿地提着伴手礼前往帝都大学。没想到却在那碰到了意料之外的案件。下任校长候补人选的医学系教授-----高寺保的尸体在讲台上被发现了！而且高寺的尸体是从讲台天花上被吊下来，帷幕上布满了耐人寻味的数字暗号......在这谜团重重的案发现场，出现了一个颇感兴趣地自言自语道“这个案件大有内幕”的男人。原来他正是南波此行要拜见之人-----上知天文下知地理的文科天才、别名“知识巨人”的宇野边叡古（藤木直人）。南波所属的搜查一课立刻展开了搜查。却不料在案发现场发现了睿古常用的烟斗里的烟草！看来凶手是打算嫁祸于叡古......到底凶手的动机是什么，而又为什么要把叡古卷入案件当中呢？！试图解开案件隐情的睿古与助手阿苏藤太（白洲迅）共同开始解读暗号。另一方面，搜查一课把副校长-----户村麻美（浅野百合子）及与被害者争夺下任校长之位的几个相关者视为嫌犯，但搜查依然难有进展。为了尽早解决案件，五十岚任命叡古为调查顾问。被搜查一课组长-----川添德治（宇梶刚士）吩咐盯着点的南波，处处跟叡古一同行动。这期间，帝都大学内发生了第二起教授遇害的案件！而且案发现场再次留下了不明所以的暗号......
