剧情梗概：
程胜（周星驰饰）乃一游手好闲之徒，终日坑蒙拐骗，无恶不作。一日装瞎子行骗，遇遇女骗子（毛舜筠饰）被追债的贵利工打手排骨（元华饰）欺负，胜一时看不过眼出手相救，不料却被债务转嫁弄了自己一屁股债。另一方面。老江湖凌万蜂（午马饰）同样欠下了贵利王（张耀扬饰）的债务，无力还清。他想办法找到自己的旧情人生萍姐（恬妞饰）和妓女APPLE（叶子媚饰）合谋冒充一富户人家向一阔少诈骗。不料被骗的阔少正是胜所扮，他也想骗这一富户。阴差阳错的骗局，笑料百出......剧情版本二：本片是周星驰跟导演李力持合作的第一部电影，他在片中不扮赌圣而扮情圣，但说穿了其实仍是老千一名，从光头师父那里学得一套行骗心法到处占人便宜，偶然碰到毛舜筠被地下钱庄的贵利王追债毒打而出手相救，不料因此背上巨债，两人只好潜入豪宅发财。恰好老光棍午马亦潜入同一豪宅偷取古董，误以为周是富翁的侄子，乃找同伙合力向他骗钱。周则将计就计反骗他们，最后却发现大家都欠下贵利王的巨债，乃合力对抗之。全片布满典型的无厘头笑料，以求搏君一笑。
