剧情梗概：
这是一个发生在十九世纪末的故事，丽兹与虔诚的丈夫伊莱（威廉休斯顿饰）和两个孩子住在一间简朴的农舍，一家四口过着安逸而又平静的日子。然而好景不长，某天小村落里来了一位新的神父（盖皮尔斯饰），这个面带伤疤、气场诡异的中年男子，引起了村里的聋哑助产士丽兹（达科塔范宁饰）的警惕。原本平静的生活随着神父到来被打破，神父以上帝之名挑起那些曾在生产过程中失去过亲人的村民对丽兹的愤怒。而他到来的真正目的是为了惩罚丽兹的逃匿。十九世纪荒凉野蛮的美国西部小镇，哑女莉姿（达科塔范宁饰）和丈夫伊莱（威廉休斯顿饰）辛苦的养育一子一女，生活清贫却安详宁静。莉姿虽然身有残疾，却是一位善良勇敢的助产士，不辞辛劳的帮助小镇上的孕妇度过分娩的难关。伊莱作为虔诚的基督徒，每个礼拜全家都会前往小镇简陋的教堂听牧师布道。当新来的牧师（盖皮尔斯饰）的话语响起时，并未失聪的莉姿大惊失色，用惊恐的目光望向了牧师，而牧师则一脸木然冷酷的回望着莉姿。礼拜之后一次莉姿为一位难产的孕妇接生，面临母子只能保住一人的抉择，莉姿选择了母亲。而这一选择使莉姿全家陷入了困境。就在莉姿全家进退维谷之时，牧师施以援手使莉姿一家得以脱困。可牧师和莉姿之间好像有着血海深仇，牧师更威胁要用残忍的手段迫害莉姿的小女儿，惩罚莉姿。之后莉姿家所有怀孕的母羊，全被刨开了肚子，羊胎鲜血淋漓的散落一地。当晚牧师更用极其变态的手段杀害了伊莱，谋划已久的血腥复仇徐徐拉开帷幕。

This is a story that happened at the end of the nineteenth century.
