本片是少数以新闻界为背景的港片，描写老、中、青三代记者。副采访主任苗侨伟，资深记者刘德华，见习记者林俊贤和老编曾志伟面对采访压力时的反应。主要情节是林俊贤无意间发现一个财团的污点证据文件，乃合三人之力跟对方的恶势力周旋，当对方企图以暴力手段压制新闻见报时，全报馆的职工一声号令之下挺身对抗，终获最后胜利。电影评价：故事的基本，每个新闻从业者都是单纯的正义感存在者，包括有点市侩的主编和不得不妥协的报馆老板，在刘德华三人威胁曾志伟说我们都不干了的时候，放在今天这三个人就是傻逼，当然今天也不存在拦住三人说年轻人需要冲劲，报纸需要激进观点的老板。今日的新闻记者已经被逼成了狗仔队，因为守着这些新闻才能报道，今日报纸的新闻都变成了摘抄，电影里报馆的对讲机里传来报案声，三人冲向案发地点，林俊贤一脚踹开房门，面对两个歹徒转身就逃，你看到了很好笑的勇气和胆小两个对立词汇同时存在一个人身上。更搞笑的是三人力擒歹徒，大批记者都来了，还没看到警察。可是现在呢？报馆变成广告投递，新闻变成摘抄，路线变成微博——报纸——电视读报节目，这还是展现了人们对报纸的信任，白纸黑字，电视的采用也算师出有名，据金陵晚报报道……当然报纸也摘抄电视采访。但是在那个年代，报纸还是主流媒体，报馆的新闻记者还是无冕之王。曾志伟说你知道香港人想看到什么知道什么新闻吗？不知道？那还不赶快去跑！就算大宝广告里一个记者的广告台词也是风吹日晒外面跑，用点大宝还真对得起咱这张脸。
