剧情梗概：罪人是一部片，王秀梅品德俱佳，奉父命嫁赖祖昌。在城里读书的昌抗拒盲婚，不肯回家成亲，赖家于是让梅与雄鸡拜堂，梅依然殷勤侍奉家姑。乡绅林大贵道貌岸然，其实对梅怀私欲，元宵节夜诱骗梅到林府，用迷药把梅奸污，事后装作酒醉推卸责任。贵得袁世凯赠牌匾，在村地位日隆。梅有了身孕，贵表面劝梅出城暂避，当晚即命男仆阿超杀梅，超知真相后着女仆荷花安置梅于山洞。梅临盘之夜，花惊动昌母被村民揭发，众欲治罪梅，推举贵为主审。贵以梅父与昌母性命要胁，逼梅隐瞒真相，继而判梅浸猪笼，危急关头一父老按旧例要梅穿上写著「罪人’衣服囚于山洞，任她自生自灭。
