剧情梗概：
燕赤霞（古天乐饰）年轻时爱上了小倩（刘亦菲饰），但出于猎妖师的责任，他只能忍痛割爱。他没有杀小倩，而是使之失忆。他和夏雪风雷（樊少皇饰）联手对付黑山老妖（惠英红饰），后者牺牲了左臂封住了老妖。某日，宁采臣（余少群饰）被派到黑山村来帮村民寻找水源。村长（徐锦江饰）等人明知山上有妖，却没有对他道出实情。在村民铁牙（李菁饰）的陪同下，宁采臣带着一群死囚上山找水。当他们来到兰若寺，竟然发现了水源。而他也第一次遇到了小倩。两人一见钟情。此事被黑山老妖得知，严刑拷问。燕赤霞屡次劝阻宁采臣不要陷入人妖之恋，奈何后者与小倩情深意重，明知是妖，却屡屡犯险，毫无退意。燕赤霞感到纠结，而此时黑山老妖已经开始了她的复仇剧情版本二：开山队遇到怪异事件纷纷逃走，只有宁采臣毅然留下。刚成人形的狸猫精小倩和宁采臣相恋，却面临来自树妖、猎魔师和人间的重重危机影片评价：本片为了避免主要角色的更多的比较，叶伟信将剧本做了较大的改动，完全淡化了程小东版本的乱世背景、将本片完全拍成了一部魔幻色彩极浓的爱情戏。此外，除将老版本中的人鬼恋修改为人妖恋之外，新版《倩女幽魂》最大的改动就是增加了燕赤霞的戏份，在一定程度上，这一角色的重要性和戏份甚至超过了宁采臣，上升到第一主角的位置上。本片剧本出自张炭之手，他和叶伟信深知在新版中即使全力演绎聂小倩和宁采臣的爱情，也终究难逃因比较而遭遇诟病的下场，因此这种近乎独辟蹊径的三角恋的设计虽然看起来有些狗血，但却恰恰是本片的高明之处。燕赤霞和小倩之间的爱情悲剧，无形中使得小倩与宁采臣的爱情显得肤浅了很多，但却恰恰成功的完成了观众的关注焦点和心理预期的转移。
